When pop band McFly perform at their sold-out show in Norwich next month, local group Lost? will be sharing the stage.

The five-piece band has beaten hundreds of other emerging bands to win the chance to be McFly's support act at their April 3 gig at the University of East Anglia's LCR.

For Lost? bass player Rob Allison it will be a case of deja-vu, because the 24-year-old from Newton Flotman was almost picked to be part of McFly and auditioned with McFly members Tom Fletcher and Harry Judd about nine years ago.

Rob said it was his McFly audition which led him to him becoming serious about a music career.

He said: 'At the time I wasn't really taking music very seriously, it was more of hobby, but having had that experience it made me start taking things more seriously.

'To support McFly is just crazy, it is like everything has come full circle.

'I'm really excited, really buzzing about it. I can't wait.'

Rob's fellow bandmates are equally excited about supporting McFly, whose hits include Baby's Coming Back, Star Girl and All About You.

The 1,700-strong crowd they will be performing in front of will also be Lost?'s biggest audience to date.

As well as Rob, the band includes singer and guitarist Peter Bilton, 25, from Long Stratton, guitarist Nathan Stimpson, 21, from Pakefield, drummer Roger Bilton, 28, from Trafford Road in Norwich, and keyboard player Ashley Hannan, 19, from Wymondham.

They describe their music as 'thrilling pop rock' and since they formed in 2009 they have toured the UK and America.

Peter explained they were picked to support McFly after they submitted a video on the McFly Super City website and fans were asked to vote for which bands they would like to be support acts on the McFly tour.

Twenty-six bands were then picked to support McFly – one for each of the nights on their Keep Calm And Play Louder Tour.

'Over 1,000 bands entered and we were in the top 10 – we were number eight,' he said.

'McFly were given a list of the top 50 to choose for support acts.

'We found out at the end of January and were pretty ecstatic. It is quite a big deal for us. The first gigs all of us saw were at the UEA so to get the chance to perform there is great.

'It is incredible. McFly are such a successful band and it is like a seal of approval from the band themselves to be picked by them.

'It is a huge opportunity and it is great of McFly to give bands this opportunity.

'We are just in the process of working out the set we are going to play.'
