Two of the biggest names from the world of avant-garde music are set to share the Norwich Theatre Royal stage for one of their first live performances together outside America.
Philip Glass and Laurie Anderson are to join forces for the performance on May 19 as part of Norfolk & Norwich Festival. Norwich Theatre Royal will be one of only two UK venues, along with The Barbican in London, where they will take to the stage.
Stephen Crocker, Norwich Theatre Royal's chief executive, said: 'We are absolutely delighted to welcome two of the world's most renowned and creative composers and performers to our stage. As the only venue outside London on their UK tour, we are expecting huge interest from the county and beyond from people keen to experience this incredible creative collaboration between two of the greatest musicians of our time.'
Philip Glass - who previously performed a sold-out concert at the Theatre Royal during the 2009 Norfolk and Norwich Festival - has a musical repertoire which includes opera, dance, theatre, orchestra and film, with his work earning him Academy Award nominations, and also a Golden Globe for The Truman Show.
Meanwhile Laurie Anderson - who featured in the 2008 Norfolk & Norwich Festival - is known for her experimental works using the latest technology. She was also previously the first artist-in-residence at America's space agency, NASA.
An Evening With Philip Glass & Laurie Anderson - presented by Norwich Theatre Royal in partnership with Norfolk & Norwich Festival - is on Friday, May 19 at 8pm. Tickets £8-£58.
