An emotional Paul Warne admitted Rotherham's 2-1 Championship win over his club Norwich City was a real family affair.

Warne had to stop and compose himself during his post-match media duties when reflecting on what a famous win meant for his nearest and dearest.

'My father is really badly ill, bless him, he is a Norwich fan. It will mean a lot,' he said, as he held back the tears. 'They all want us to win, even my Dad, but don't get me wrong to beat Norwich, I'm Norwich, my wife is, all the family.

'If you have ever been to Norwich, then you know you can only support Norwich because Ipswich is too far away and they are not Norwich. My brother was up, one of my best mate's was up and both have Norwich season tickets. They wanted Rotherham to win more than Norwich. I have some nice messages from back home saying if Norwich were going to lose they would rather it was to us.'

Warne had been confirmed as the Millers' interim boss until the end of the season on the eve of a landmark win in his career.

'I don't think management is for me but while the chairman asks me to do it in this difficult period I will do it,' he said. 'That is three wins in seven or eight games. Before we were winning I had fans behind the dugout abusing me. Let me assure everyone no-one wants to win more than me.

'The lads can't give me any more than they have got. Norwich's keeper shook my hand at the end and said I should be proud of my group. They can't give any more than that and we deserved to win.

'I don't want to sound like a romantic but my lads have spirit and heart. If England play Spain and try to be better at football they lose every single time. If England play Spain and decide to put (Peter) Crouch and (Andy) Carroll up they might stand a chance.

'We do not have as good players as Norwich. That is the fact. We set them up to play ugly. No team wants to run back to their own goal.'
