Angus Gunn and James Maddison are in the England U21s squad for a key European Championship qualifier later this month.

On-loan Manchester City keeper Gunn was touted with a potential elevation to the senior ranks, but was named in Aidy Bothroyd's 25-man party on Thursday lunchtime for a friendly against Romania on March 24 at Wolves' Molineux stadium, which will pay tribute to former Coventry City, West Brom and England international Cyrille Regis.

The Young Lions then host Ukraine at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane on March 27, in their bid to reach next summer's finals.

England currently top their qualifying group, with Maddison making his debut in the corresponding 2-0 win back in October.

'It's been a good start to our new Euro campaign,' said Boothroyd, speaking to the FA site. 'We've got 13 points from the five games, a five-point lead at the top of our group and after analysing all of those games from different areas, we still think we could be better, so that's a real positive.

'We'll now be working hard to make sure we keep improving on our games so far and we've got two matches this month against Romania and Ukraine to try and do that.'

Maddison's City team mate Marley Watkins has been included in Ryan Giggs' first Wales squad for a long-distance China Cup fixture.

Watkins faces a gruelling trip to China to play the hosts on March 22.

The Norwich City attacker has started the last two games for his club, but admitted recently he has failed to make his mark at Carrow Road since a free transfer last summer after impressing for Barnsley in the Championship.

The 27-year-old is joined in Giggs' first national squad by the likes of Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale and young Liverpool starlet Ben Woodburn.

Watkins earned his first cap earlier this season as a second half substitute for Woodburn in a 1-1 friendly draw against Panama.

Another Liverpool youngster, Hull City's on-loan midfielder Harry Wilson, is also in the squad.

Wilson scored against the Canaries in last week's 4-3 Championship win on Humberside and followed that up with a goal in the midweek 3-0 cruise at Ipswich.

Meanwhile, Tottenham loanee Marcus Edwards is in the England U20s squad for games against Poland and Portugal.

Keith Downing's youngsters travel to face the Poles on March 22 before hosting Portugal at Manchester City's academy stadium on March 27.

Edwards has failed to break into Farke's match day squad at Norwich since his January signing from Spurs until the end of the season.

Farke has questioned the highly-rated teenager's attitude and work without the ball.

City's academy striker Adam Idah is in the Republic of Ireland U17s squad for European Championship elite round qualifiers against Georgia, hosts Poland and Macedonia.

The Republic will aim to finish in the top two of Group B to progress as one of 15 teams joining hosts England in the finals to be held in May.

Cork native Idah was the top scorer in Europe across the qualifying round stage, with seven goals, and was a key figure in the Canaries' run to the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup this season.
