Cardiff City chief Neil Warnock flew around the world to persuade Bluebirds' owner Vincent Tan to bankroll Josh Murphy's big-money move from Norwich City.

Murphy signed a four year deal for an undisclosed fee earlier this week - believed to be worth an initial £10m - after Warnock convinced Tan to snare his number one transfer target.

The Cardiff boss also signed Greg Cunningham from Preston and is tipping both to grab the Premier League by storm.

'I had to fly 14 hours to get Murphy over the line,' Warnock told Sky Sports News. 'I had to go out to speak to Vincent Tan because him and Greg (Cunningham) were always my number one targets. We only had one left-footer in the squad.

'I think Greg is as good as any left back in the country. He is very under-rated.

'I also think Josh is maturing all the time. I have watched him for six years now and he excites me. I love people who get the ball and run at people and we are going to need that, especially when we are under the cosh at some of these grounds.

'If he can mature even more then he will be a great asset to us to add to what we already have and what we are going to add to the squad I think we can give teams a good run for their money.'

Warnock insists there will be no major splurge to try and compete with established top flight rivals.

'I would like another wide player, striker and definitely a midfield player', he told Wales Online. 'Maybe two of them.

'My defence is my least concern to be honest. If I have to forego not signing a defender but instead get a player in midfield, I'd look at that. The defence has got us this far and I'm confident in those lads.

'We'll wait and see what comes off with the budget.

'Vincent doesn't mind me saying that our budget will be just over half of what Huddersfield's is, to give you some comparison.

'But that's not going to disappointment me. We've got a good groups of lads and I'm bringing in players to fit into that, I won't disrupt it or bring people who can't fit into the mould.'
