Norwich City boss Daniel Farke stands by his decision to sanction Tom Trybull’s loan move to Championship rivals Blackburn.

Trybull made his debut for Rovers in their midweek 3-1 league defeat at Watford following a season long switch to Lancashire.

Rovers’ boss Tony Mowbray has already likened him to former Tottenham ace Christian Eriksen in terms of his ability on the ball. The German’s deadline day exit prompted some City fans to question the wisdom of allowing Trybull to join the promotion hopefuls, but Farke insisted it is the right call.

“He had lots of time but no other club apart from Blackburn called us,” he said, speaking before Mowbray’s comments. “So we have a decision whether to pay his salary and have an individual coach working with him. Will he lose his value in the future, as he still contracted to us? He can’t play against us and we have the right to call him back in January to allow a different move.

“It is tricky but from the business point of view it was the right decision and also Tom’s big wish.

“Right now if we are scared Tom wins the Championship title for Blackburn then we should have kept him. We were transparent and honest and even before the summer we told Tom he could leave.”

Trybull was part of a post-relegation refresh to the squad engineered by Farke and sporting director Stuart Webber.

Oliver Skipp has been an ever-present in his position following his own loan move from Tottenham, while Lukas Rupp continues to impress in a re-deployed central midfield role.

“We made a decision in the summer, and it was not an easy one,” said Farke. “Tom came here originally because of me. He came on trial when no other club in Germany was interested. I got a lot of stick but I said I wanted Tom and no one else. He did brilliantly for us in two seasons.

“But Tom, as a player, always wants to be on the pitch and when he is not he can be a bit moody and his body language is maybe not great.

“We analysed last season in the Premier League and we felt we needed to add some physicality and pace in central midfield.

“We needed some fresh legs, fresh energy. We had the chance on Tom’s position to bring in Skipp and (Jacob) Sorensen. That was going to be the end of Tom’s time here, and we still have Alex Tettey as well.”
