Teemu Pukki is a gem for Dean Smith after the Norwich City marksman moved level with Grant Holt in the club’s scoring charts following his 11th Premier League strike of the season in Sunday's 1-1 draw at Wolves.
Pukki’s 78th senior goal for the Canaries at Molineux, from 166 appearances stopped the rot after five previous top flight defeats.
Smith is a former team mate of the talismanic Holt, who led the charge from League One to the top flight under Paul Lambert.
“He is a fantastic forward. He has so much respect from his team mates. He is so low maintenance,” said Smith. “What you see is what you get.
"He could probably train a bit better in the early parts of the week but if he puts in performances and makes runs like that we don’t mind. But joking apart he is a well-respected lad in the dressing room.
“I played with Holty as well and that underlines the company he is keeping and the impact he has had at this club. His runs are brilliant, he shows so much intelligence and he can also travel with the ball really well and put defenders off-balance.
"I am really pleased for him to score 11 Premier League goals this season, and he will be eager to get more next week against Tottenham.
"The one thing he will be disappointed with is he could have had the matchball at half-time, but he scored a really good goal.”
Rayan Ait-Nouri's second half header pegged back the Canaries, who turned in a cohesive display in a new look defensive shape.
“I decided to change it to a back five because I felt we needed to stop the bleeding,” said the City chief. “We have been giving away too many goals, too many big chances since we got relegated.
"We put an extra man in the defence and let Wolves’ outside centre backs have the ball until they got to the half way line. I thought it worked really well.
“We restricted them at one end but one of our weapons is on transition. I was annoyed with the Wolves goal. I never thought it was a free kick. Dimi (Giannoulis) toes the ball through the lad’s legs, who goes down.
"The assistant is about two yards away, and probably too close, but it was a poor, poor decision. It gives them a lift and then the crowd lifted then for five or 10 minutes.
"We had to withstand that, Gunny (Angus Gunn) makes a big save but then we grew back into the game again and created chances of our own.”
