Here is Paddy’s verdict on Dean Smith’s Norwich, who bowed out of the Premier League in tame fashion as Tottenham cruised to a top four finish.

• Tim Krul 5

Even his head coach admitted Angus Gunn had not deserved to be left out. Which only fuelled a sense this may have been Krul’s final Norwich outing. If so, a sad end, particularly his involvement in the second Tottenham goal which bore the hallmarks of another calamitous lack of understanding with a midfielder, in a repeat of a recent goal leaked against old club Newcastle.

This time, Mathias Normann was given a verbal barb or two in the aftermath, having been on his heels to allow Rodrigo Bentancur the chance to intercept his rolled pass and square for the diving Harry Kane.

Did pull off a tremendous point blank reaction stop to thwart Son Heung-Min, who exacted his revenge seconds later to finish the first of two goals. Averted a bigger margin of victory for the visitors when he foiled Kane and Ben Davies.

• Sam Byram 4

Withdrawn inside the opening 40 minutes with what Smith labelled afterwards a ‘hip that locked up’. One hopes a summer of rest and recuperation will ensure there is no lasting damage for the pre-season return.

Again deployed in a central defensive station. Early booking when he left plenty on Son. Outstripped for pace by Bentancur, who squared for the excellent Dejan Kulusevski to open the floodgates.

• Grant Hanley (C) 5

Torrid afternoon at times trying to deal with the movement of Son. Tracked his run in the 55th minute but the golden boot winner still got a shot away quicker than Hanley could close him down.

Rose above Emerson Royal at the other end but unable to test Hugo Lloris. One burst into midfield took him clear of Kane and Royal to set up Normann.

• Jacob Sorensen 5

Deployed on the left hand side of a central defensive three. Glimpses of his ability to read the game with a couple of key first half interceptions to ensure Kulusevski did not get a sight of Tim Krul’s goal.

But one more Norwich game where the central midfielder by trade was valued more for his versatility.

• Max Aarons 6

Another for whom this felt like it might be his final game in green and yellow. If so, what a servant the young man has been after emerging from the club’s academy pool to take the Championship by storm in that 2018/19 Championship title winning season.

Looked in the mood to get on the front foot, when possible, in a more advanced wing back role. Won the first corner of the game with an aggressive burst at Davies. Early in the second half another slaloming run took him past Ryan Sessegnon and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to feed Kieran Dowell.

Tried his luck cutting inside but the ball rebounded to Normann, who lashed over. Goal line clearance foiled Son after a rare lack of composure from Kulusevski upon rounding Krul.

• Mathias Normann 4

So much promise, so much disappointment from the FC Rostov loanee. Berated by Krul for not anticipating his short pass that led to Kane’s goal. Beaten all ends up prior to that by Kulusevski’s quick feet.

Booked for grappling Hojbjerg. But the odd fine raking diagonal pass to connect with either wing back. Hammered a rising shot well wide from the edge of the area on the half volley.

• Pierre Lees-Melou 4

Totally bypassed by Tottenham’s power, pace and athleticism in the middle of the park. Scrambled thinking underlined by a silly flick in a dangerous position intended for Dimi Giannoulis that allowed Davies to test Krul.

Best moment was a rare show of ambition to attack the box, exchange passes with Teemu Pukki, but fail to cushion return.

Dimi Giannoulis 5

Going forward as good and progressive as any in the home ranks. At least took up the invitation to counter whenever possible, prior to the interval. Quality dart deserved a better first touch from Pukki.

Stood up a cross Lloris appeared to claw behind via the crossbar. But those defensive concerns will persist in the manner Kulusevski raced in behind, then veered too easily around the Greek international before unleashing an unstoppable curling effort into the top corner.

• Kieran Dowell 4

On the periphery for the most part with Tottenham raiding at will. That is the charge - too often he fails to stamp his authority and undoubted technical ability on Norwich games.

Checked infield to find a pocket of space and then cushioned a ball out towards Pierre Lees-Melou.

• Milot Rashica 5

A low bar admittedly but this was a more threatening shift than his recent lifeless outings for the Canaries. Dragged a shot from a yard outside the box beyond Lloris’ near post, after Eric Dier’s wayward clearance invited him forward.

Fed Pukki and then showed for the cutback in the 40th minute but Hojbjerg read his intentions and blocked his shift and hit on his left. Driving run in the 55th minute, and first time cross, was met by the unmarked Pukki, who mis-directed his near post header.

• Teemu Pukki 5

Officially crowned player-of-the-year prior to the game. Best chance arguably that piece of clever movement to earn himself the space to attack Rashica’s cross, only to plant a header wide.

A couple of occasions in the first half his usually surefooted control let him down, on threaded balls from Giannoulis and Dowell.

Showed his awareness five minutes before the break when he drew three players towards him before rolling in Rashica. Hojbjerg blocked his swivelling effort a minute later.
