Kellen Fisher is thriving under the demanding Johannes Hoff Thorup in his Championship breakthrough season at Norwich City.

The combative full back was suspended for the midweek 6-1 romp against Plymouth, but had previously established himself in front of Jack Stacey under the Dane.

Fisher has not looked back since he was plucked from non league Bromley, at the time, in 2023, and earned his first call up to the England Under-21s recently.

“We all know this is a project with a young team and we have shown some early signs with an exciting brand of football. We’ll only get better,” said the youngster. “I have enjoyed it. It is a new way of training compared to David Wagner.

"David gave me my debut and I thank him for that. I enjoyed it. The manager now wants to keep the standards high and there are the little things he tells you in training to get better, and then he’ll consistently be on at you to work on those little things.

"He’s always in your ear to improve on those things, but in a short period of time he has helped me to get better.”

The 20-year-old, interviewed by the Sun, admitted it was a steep learning curve after being fast-tracked into former head coach Wagner’s senior plans from a non league, rather than the usual academy background.

“It was really tough at the start. I was meant to be introduced as part of the Under-21s but was part of the first team squad really early,” he said. “I think it took me three to six months to adapt to the training and everything else, but everyone at the club helped me when I was struggling to adapt to this new level of football.

“It has been really good for me getting introduced to men’s football early (at Bromley). I was training with the first team at 16 and 17 and getting all these learning experiences. A different route to those who go through academies, but Bromley were really good to me.

“My agent told me which clubs were looking at me and Norwich were one of the first. I was on holiday and I got a call from my agent saying it was progressing and I was away from home at the time so I was bit anxious but when I came back they said it was nearly done.

"So I came to the Norwich training ground and as soon as I got here I knew straightaway this was the club for me.”
