Big games call for big players – and King’s Lynn Town have both on Tuesday night when Kidderminster Harriers visit The Walks.

Harriers are a point off top spot with a game in hand on the two teams above them, Scunthorpe and Chorley, and are on an eight-game unbeaten run in the league.

Lynn - back up to sixth - will need to be at their best, but manager Adam Lakeland knows that Jonny Margetts, one of his most powerful weapons, is close to firing on all cylinders again after a return, somewhat premature, to action after eight weeks out with a back injury.

It was the cool-headed Margetts who slotted home a late penalty at The Walks on Saturday to beat a stubborn Southport side and end Lynn’s run of league defeats at three.

Lynn’s leading scorer looked much sharper and Lakeland believes he is reaching full fitness – and the closer he gets to that the better his team will be.

“He's looked sharp all week this week in training and it's been good for him to have a full week of training,” Lakeland said after the weekend win. “He knows where the back of the net is. I think a fit Jonny Margetts against Farsley (lost 2-0) when he comes on, I think he gets two or three goals, but he'd been out prior to that for eight weeks. He'd had a couple of sessions and he played 20 minutes ahead of schedule at Chorley.

“Today you only have to look with his work rate, the way that he's competing, leading the line with Josh (Hmami) against three physical centre halves. It's tough, but he doesn't shy away from it.

“He got unlucky with one at the start of the second half where it kind of bobbled around and he tried to turn and let his shot go with his left foot and he didn't quite manage to get hold of it.

“But players like Jonny, they’re worth their weight in gold because they know where the back of the net is, and if you can get the ball into areas enough, he will score goals.

“He's not had too many opportunities today, but the crucial moment in the game when you need somebody with that quality and composure to score the penalty, he's got it.

“I do think he's getting fitter, stronger and back to what he was before he got injured and that's only going to make us better.”

The Southport win tees Lynn up nicely for Tuesday night, but Lakeland says big games are the norm in National league North.

“Of course, teams are different, clubs have different statures,” he said. “Kidderminster is going to be a really tough game for us on Tuesday, but it's no bigger or more or less important than any of the other games we play.

“It's about us being at it and if we are, then we've got a chance of winning every game we're playing and if we're not, we've got a chance of losing every game we're playing. It is just about us focusing on ourselves and looking to back up today's result with a positive one on Tuesday night.”

Lakeland will be without goalkeeper Paul Jones, who has a swollen knee, and striker Gold Omotayo, whose ankle injury is likely to keep him out until the home game against Alfreton on December 14.
