King’s Lynn Town are in FA Trophy action this weekend - but don’t be surprised if manager Adam Lakeland has one eye on the bread and butter of the National League North.

Lynn’s good form has come to an abrupt end in November, with three consecutive defeats following an unbeaten six-game run - thanks in part to a number of key absentees.

However, the good news is that young defensive midfielder Cody Johnson will be available for selection when Lynn head to Leamington for their second round tie.

Johnson, 20, has been a shining light since joining on loan from Stockport, but has missed Lynn’s last two games.

Lakeland had declined to comment on his absence recently, fuelling speculation he has been recalled by his parent club.

But his return to duty at Leamington will offset the loss of Sam Walker, who was injured in the home defeat to Farsley Celtic on November 5.

Josh Hmami, Freddie Sass, Tommy Hughes and Gold Omotayo have all been recent visitors to the treatment room, while striker Jonny Margetts is still feeling his way back to fitness after eight weeks out with a back injury.

A week ago, Lakeland said he was hopeful that “probably one or two” should be back.

“We can get a full week of training into them now,” he said. “Obviously it’s the FA Trophy, so it gives us two weeks before we're back in league action, so certainly by the time we play in the league again, we should, all being well, be in a much healthier position in terms of bodies, competition for places, and also freshening up the lads who've been playing lots and lots of minutes.

“People throw it as that you’re full time and we should be fresh, but it's tough, the amount of travelling that we've done and the amount of games, and tough games.

“When you’ve had a good start to a season and you’re one of the teams that's up there then every game becomes even harder, because everybody really wants to make it difficult for you and beat you.

“So it's been a tough run. Obviously we’ve got the Trophy on Saturday and we'll just have to see what we've got body wise for that game.

“Of course we'll want to go there and try and win. It's going to be a really difficult game, Leamington, particularly at home, are very difficult team to play against.

“The FA Trophy - we'd love to have a run in it, but it's not as important to us as the league is. So we'll see where we are come the back end of the week and we'll go up there trying to get a win and get through. But certainly come the Southport game, I think we'll be in a much better position again.”
