Here is Samuel Seaman's verdict on an injury-hit Norwich City side, whose poor performance was punished in their 2-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday.

George Long

Not much worth celebrating on a tough evening for the birthday boy. Could have done with the gift of an error-free game, but did little to limit first goal-scorer Josh Windass' options before somehow letting Dominic Iorfa's tame header slip through his grasp.

Some good saves after those two goals went in, but the damage was done and many fans have called for the inclusion of youngster Archie Mair as a result. Hard not to feel for the 31-year-old, but also to mount a defence of him. 3

Kellen Fisher

One of the rare fairly bright lights in an otherwise poor showing team-wise. Let much less down his right-hand side than was allowed on the Norwich left, and offered a threat in possession too.

Rounded off an impressive move early on by testing James Beadle and always looked assured on the ball. Frustrated at times by the lack of movement in front of him, and was overly ambitious in a couple of missed interceptions, but a step in the right direction nonetheless. 7

The more solid of the two visiting centre-backs, even if that counted for little by the time Iorfa's header had nestled in the near side-netting.

A couple of trademark aerial wins and good work to lever attackers off the ball, combined with some fine passes and good work in possession. Still looks like he's forging a defensive understanding with Jose Cordoba, however, hence the huge gap between them for the opener. 6

Jose Cordoba

When it works it looks great, but too many times was the Panamanian caught off guard or in two minds at Hillsborough.

A few occasions on which he was a physically dominant force and calmly played the ball out, although they won't be remembered as much as when Windass ran in behind him to slot home for 1-0.

Perhaps his most significant mistake was giving away the foul that led to the lead doubling, having got the right side of goal and had ample opportunity to pass back to Long but declined to do so.

He turned, lost the ball and gave away the free-kick that found Iorfa's head. That was described post-match by Johannes Hoff Thorup as a "stupid foul". Not Cordoba's best night. 4

Callum Doyle

Another below-par display from a talented man who's gone off the boil since the international break.

Absent-minded both when Marvin Johnson had plenty of time to find Ike Ugbo for what should have been a tap-in and when Windass strolled between he and Cordoba to go through on goal.

His lack of pace was again exposed in a left-back role that still doesn't appear to suit him, although in an attacking sense it was a slight improvement from recent games. 5

Jacob Sorensen

A step too far for the Dane, who came back from injury to perform admirably at Cardiff but looked exhausted almost from the off this time out.

Lost a variety of midfield duels and gave off the feeling that Wednesday were always a step ahead in those central areas. His usual calm distribution turned to unreliability and ponderousness, too. Could do with a rest now, even if one doesn't look like it can really be afforded. 4

Emiliano Marcondes

Another display of tireless running and endeavour from a man whose fitness many doubted upon his arrival, but with little reward in South Yorkshire.

Tackled, intercepted, combined and offered for the ball a lot, but it's hard to pinpoint any positive contributions in the big moments and when he did get involved in the final third it rarely turned out well. Still one of the standout performers in yellow and green on the night and during most of their barren run. 6

Oscar Schwartau

After a series of improvements from the young Dane, this felt like a very small step backward.

Didn't get on the ball enough, and when he did he was often eased off it or took a loose touch. Inconsistency is to be expected from someone aged just 18, though, and much like the team he will benefit from patience. 5

A difficult night for the Liverpool loanee, who will have been desperate to make his mark in his first start for the club.

But instead he blended into the background and what little he saw of the ball didn't result in much. It was always going to be a tough time to make his full debut, but one can't argue that he made the best of it. 5

Borja Sainz

Unfortunately for Norwich, this was exactly the sort of day every one of their opponents will hope for from the Spaniard.

Clearly a concerted effort to keep him quiet from the hosts, but one that was very effective and largely limited him to relatively unrealistic 'me against the world' dribbles.

Found room for what could have been a trademark screamer in the first half, but sent flying well over. Looked like he was getting more and more wound up as time went on. 5

Replacing Josh Sargent is a tough task for any Championship player, let alone one who's just 21, has been playing out wide and has never featured at a level close to this one.

That was borne out in the Croatian's performances, with any dynamic attempt he did make to break into the box halted fairly comfortably by a sea of blue and white bodies.

Looked slightly better on the right after Thorup's late reshuffle, but he's still got plenty of convincing to do. 5

SUBSTITUTES

Amankwah Forson (on for Gordon, 58)

Looked like he may have turned a corner with some nice touches early on, but soon returned to the confidence-lacking player he's been recently. Needs time. 5

Christian Fassnacht (on for Fisher, 73)

A couple of considered touches on the edge of the area but little else to report. 5
