King’s Lynn Town 0 Farsley Celtic 2

King’s Lynn Town suffered a shock defeat as their hopes of a Bonfire Night party at The Walks fell flat.

Two first-half goals settled the issue in favour of a team who were thankful for an inspired performance from keeper Tom Wooster and his defenders as well as some average finishing.

Farsley had started the evening in 18th place in National League North, with Lynn third, two points off top spot – a position that could have been very different.

But the hosts were gifted both goals on a night when Lynn’s injury woes were compounded by the loss of midfielder Sam Walker to injury five minutes before the break.

Lynn boss Adam Lakeland was already without the suspended Cody Johnson, with striker Theo Williams coming in for his first start. Josh Hmami and Freddie Sass are still sidelined by injury, but Tommy Hughes returned to the subs’ bench after missing the last two games.

Williams found space in the area on five minutes, forcing the keeper to save with his legs.

Gold Omotayo then teed up Josh McCammon, but his shot lacked power.

It was one-way traffic in the early stages, although Farsley soon caught their breath and Kyle McFadden had to get down quickly to block a shot by Danny Greenfield. McFadden had to repeat the trick to keep out Manny Mampala’s effort as the visitors pressed.

The forward motion didn’t last long as Lynn headed the other way. Omotayo wasted a Dylan Crowe cross when he headed over on the half-hour mark.

But then came two shocks as the visitors took control of the game. Their opener came courtesy of some generous defending as Darren Stephenson was gifted acres of space in the area in which to pick his spot.

Omotayo headed straight at the keeper from Fin Barnes’ corner, but Farsley then added a second in time added on, Jones denying Robbie Fox before Mampala followed up.

Jonny Margetts came on at the start of the second half but missed a sitter two minutes in when he stabbed Ross Crane’s low cross wide of the post. Crane then fired wide with the goal gaping and it looked like being one of those nights for the hosts.

Barnes and McCammon were both denied by keeper Wooster as Lynn huffed and puffed, but failed to blow the Farsley house down.
