King’s Lynn Town 0 Leamington 0

King’s Lynn Town’s mini winning run came to an end at The Walks.

The Linnets threw everything bar the kitchen sink at the visitors, but were denied by the woodwork and one piece of brilliance from visiting keeper Callum Hawkins.

“I thought we were excellent in the second half,” said manager Adam Lakeland. “But I thought we played really well, the better team, came really close to scoring.

“Fin has obviously hit the post around about the hour mark if memory serves me right. The keeper’s made an unbelievable save off Macca (Kyle McFadden) - probably should have scored, me being really critical, but it's a top drawer save and then I think we've had a header cleared off the line off a corner and we've had another one blocked on the line off the corner, but then they've come close right at the end and Pat's (Boyes) has made a big save, but there were bodies everywhere.

“I thought first half they certainly threatened our goal more than we did theirs, but nothing of note that I can remember on target, one that flashed wide off a break from our corner.

“I just felt that they played second ball better than us first half, second ball landed on more, had a bit more territory, played too much of the game in our half for my liking.

“But second half we were miles better, I thought we looked like a really good side second half and there's obviously that element of frustration that we've not won it, but you if can't win, don't lose. It's another clean sheet, it's another point and you’ve just got to take the positives.”

Lynn made two changes to the team which started at Oxford City in midweek - midfielder Josh Hmami was out with a knock while Sam Walker was on the bench. Cody Johnson returned to the middle with Gold Omotayo recalled in attack.

Leamington started the day eighth in the table, four points and four places behind the Linnets, who were looking for their fourth win in a row.

Henry Landers didn’t make the most of the space he was given as he dragged a shot well wide from 20 yards, while Callum Stewart should have done better than head Landers’ free-kick wide on 17 minutes.

Lynn grew into the game with some good possession and had their first effort on 25 minutes, Fin Barnes curling a left-footer just too high.

Keeper Pat Boyes did well to turn away a fierce shot by Edward Rowe wide for a corner just past the half hour mark.

Lynn lost midfielder Tommy Hughes to injury on 34 minutes, Walker coming on.

Crane had two cracks in the Leamington area as the ball pinged around a host of bodies, with Leamington breaking well from the corner and Stewart shooting just wide.

There had been little between the teams for the opening 45 minutes, but it was a different game after the break. Lynn started the half on the front foot, Omotayo heading Barnes’ corner into the ground and then seeing his follow-up shot blocked.

Barnes came closest to breaking the deadlock, on 60 minutes, when he made space for himself on the edge of the area and fired in a left-foot shot which cannoned off the inside of the right-hand post.

McFadden’s goalbound header was cleared off the line before the defender was denied by a brilliant save by keeper Hawkins who kept out his glancing header from close range.

It was one-way traffic for long periods, Lynn committing numbers in attack as they looked for a breakthrough.

Leamington almost got it, but keeper Boyes - who had had little to do for 45 minutes - spread his body to deny Stewart in time added on.
