Adam Lakeland has given the thumbs up to keeper Pat Boyes as he pencils in the weekend debutant for another two games this week.
Boyes will be between the sticks at Oxford City on Tuesday night and almost certainly at home to Leamington on Saturday, covering for injured number one Paul Jones.
The medical report on Jones’ knee is better than expected, with the experienced stopper set to miss a week to 10 days.
Boyes, 22, stepped in for his debut at home to Buxton on Saturday and kept a clean sheet, barely putting a foot wrong in a game which was barely five minutes old when the skies opened and soaked The Walks.
“He's a very good goalkeeper and he's a brilliant lad,” said Lakeland. “It's a difficult thing to be as a goalkeeper when you're not playing, because opportunities probably are few and far between, but we know that when Pat’s required to play that he's more than capable. He's played a lot of men's games for his age.
“Really pleased for him - and the weather won't have bothered him because he's from Doncaster so he’s used to it.”
Jones – who was watching from the stands – has made the position his own in the three years he has been at the club and is consider one of the best in the league.
“He's a great bloke and he's been absolutely superb in our time here, just reliable and steady and he's not flashy,” said Lakeland. “But you don't need to be in goal - it's the flashy ones that make mistakes.
“We got good news with Jonah because we did worry that maybe his issue with his knee could have been a bit longer term. It will probably be more led by him, really, on how he feels, but he's certainly not going to be out for too long. Obviously everybody here has seen what Pat's capable of doing - we see that every single day in training, but that's where your squad is so important, because if somebody goes down you need somebody else to go in and we’ve got good, solid strong group at the minute and competition for places is fierce.”
Lynn go into the game at Oxford sixth in the National League North table, one of four clubs who are two points off top spot. Their opponents are fourth from bottom, but had a confidence-boosting 2-0 win away to Warrington at the weekend.
