Former Norwich City striker Gary Hooper has joined seventh-tier Kettering Town in the latest step of his long career.

The 36-year-old becomes the Southern League side’s latest high-profile addition, after they signed former Newcastle prospect Nile Ranger and once-Burnley man Marvin Sordell.

The Poppies are currently second in the division behind league leaders Bedford Town, but they hold a game in hand in the race for the single automatic promotion spot.

They’re set for a high-profile FA Cup first round clash with local rivals Northampton Town, who City beat during pre-season, next month, when they’ll hope to shock the League One club.

An official statement said Kettering were “delighted to see another player with undoubted quality join”, praising his experience with the likes of Celtic and Sheffield Wednesday.

Hooper played 70 games for Norwich between 2013 and 2016, scoring 20 goals.
