Adam Lakeland says it makes no difference to him that King’s Lynn Town’s FA Cup heroics have earned them a trip to his former club Curzon Ashton in the next round.
Lakeland left Curzon to take over at Lynn just over a year ago – during which time he has twice lost to his old employers at The Walks.
But he insists the draw makes no difference to him on a personal level.
“I couldn't care less about Curzon Ashton any more,” he said after Tuesday’s penalty shootout replay win over Worksop.
“I've been here for 12 months. I'm fully invested in King’s Lynn and I couldn't really give two hoots about Curzon Ashton or what they are doing.
“What I do know is they're a good team because they've got a lot of good players, the majority of which I signed, and they're very lucky to have that group of players. And they’re still a good side.
“One thing I would say is we know plenty about them and you'd rather go into a cup game knowing as much about the opposition as you can, where sometimes when you play teams lower down the pyramid or even above, you can find out as much information as you go looking for but you don't necessarily always know the individuals’ strengths and weaknesses as well as we obviously will do about Curzon.
“They're a good side and we know that we'll have to play well. But I think it'll be completely different going up there to when they've been down here on the two occasions since (assistant) Sam (Walker) and I joined King’s Lynn.
“The first time, as we've already said numerous times, they beat us well. The game several weeks ago I thought it was very even. They got a massive slice of luck with the first goal and then we just made a bit of an error for the second goal and it's a good finish by Buckley-Ricketts. But I don't think there was a great deal in that game and it shows that the teams, within a short space of time, have come closer. And that's what I do - I get good players in and I work hard with my team on the training ground.
“I’ll get this team above Curzon Ashton, eventually, but going there, they're the favourites and they're slightly ahead of us, so the onus is on them and we will go and try and cause an upset.”
