Man City loanee Callum Doyle feeling the love at Norwich

The defender has impressed during the opening weeks of his time in Norfolk, establishing himself as a key member within Johannes Hoff Thorup’s system at Carrow Road.

His classy ball-playing qualities combined with heart-on-sleeve commitment have helped endear him to Canaries supporters, who have taken an immediate liking to the England U21 international.

That has culminated in a player of the month award for August, a new chant created by supporters and plenty of game time – despite an indifferent start for City as a collective, the opening weeks of Doyle’s stay couldn’t have gone much better.  

“I was buzzing to get that player of the month award, I try my best each game and I’m hoping that I can keep going,” Doyle said, who acknowledged the good relationship he already has with fans.

“Yeah. Especially at the Cov game, they’ve given me a chant and I was loving it. Travelling all the time, you’ve got to pay some respect.

“They’ve got behind us and have tried to help all of us. All the staff and the players appreciate the fans.”

Norwich and Doyle had to be patient to link up during the summer with the 20-year-old joining Pep Guardiola’s senior team during a pre-season trip to the United States.

That has enabled Doyle to hit the ground running at Norwich, and he reflects positively both on the experiences gained on that trip and Manchester City’s communications with him whilst in Norfolk.

“It was great. You’ve got the experienced lads there, and I did learn a lot during that trip, and I’m trying to implement it to Norwich,” he said.

“That was my first pre-season away with the senior lads. It was a great experience but I was also looking forward to coming to Norwich and playing my best.

“They always show interest. They come and see me once or twice a month, depending on how the games are going. They’re always keeping in touch with me to see if I’m doing well.”
