Radcliffe 1 King’s Lynn Town  2

Two goals from Jonny Margetts secured King’s Lynn Town three valuable points on the road ahead of a tough week in National League North.

The Linnets put the frustration of the bank holiday home loss to Peterborough Sports well and truly behind them, Margetts making it four goals in the four games he has played this season.

The hitman put Lynn ahead just before the hour mark, and although Radcliffe levelled three minutes before the break, Margetts notched the winner 20 minutes from time.

Victory will be a welcome boost to fifth-placed Lynn, who now face a trip to Scarborough, who are two places below them, on Tuesday night before they return to The Walks on Saturday to face manager Adam Lakeland’s former club, Curzon Ashton, who are second.

“Absolutely delighted with that win,” Lakeland told the club’s official channels. “This is a tough place to come, against a really difficult team to play against and I thought the team was so disciplined throughout the game, we managed the threats that they have down the sides of the pitch and I felt we managed the numbers that they get in the middle of the pitch incredibly well.

“We felt that we'd have opportunities to hurt them on transition, which I felt we did, especially in the first half. I felt we were the better team first half, we had a lot of possession, quite good control in the game, both with and without the ball.

“We got into the final third countless times and obviously outside of the goal that we scored, the keeper made a couple of very good saves, one off Ross Crane, one off Finn Barnes and we were well worthy, in my opinion, of being ahead in the game, but then to go and concede a goal off a set play was disappointing.

“But the reaction from that setback in the second half was really pleasing because two halves of football are not usually the same in this league, against a good side who score a lot of goals and keep going until the end. We knew they would put us under a lot of pressure at some point in that second half and I felt that when that came we managed it pretty well, stood up to it and we always felt we'd get more opportunities on the break and Jonny’s popped up with an unbelievable finish.

“I feel like we fully deserved that three points today and I am really pleased for the players and the supporters who travelled all the way up to get behind us here.”
