King’s Lynn Town have signed one-time Norwich City youth player Finlay Barnes.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder left York City in June, his contract cancelled by mutual consent, and joins Lynn on a permanent deal from Braintree Town.

He joined the Minstermen a year earlier from Leiston -  having joined the Suffolk club from Norwich United in June 2020 - and had loans spells at Darlington and Scarborough.

Barnes played for Scarborough in both their games against the Linnets last season, scoring in a 2-0 home success and then causing big problems when his side came back from 3-0 down to win 4-3 on April 1.

Lynn boss Adam Lakeland said: “I’m delighted to get Fin in the building.

"He’s a player we’ve liked for some time and did attempt to sign him in the off-season, so to now get him on board is a real positive and he makes the group even stronger. He’s a creative player who is strong in one v one situations, can go past people and is a real threat in the final third.

"I’m sure he will be someone the supporters enjoy watching and I look forward to him playing.”

Barnes said: “I’m really happy and excited to join, get minutes and enjoy my football down at The Walks."
