Norwich City are long-term admirers of Leicester's Tom Cannon, but are not expected to make a late transfer charge to sign the striker.

Reports in the national media on Monday evening stated that the Canaries were one of a handful of Championship clubs expected to submit an offer to sign the 21-year-old before Friday's deadline, but that is understood not to be the case.

City have monitored Cannon's progress for a prolonged period and displayed concrete interest in the striker last summer as they sought an additional striking option after Josh Sargent suffered a long-term injury, but that has not developed further subsequently.

Norwich eventually recruited Hwang Ui-jo on loan whilst Cannon secured a move to eventual Championship champions Leicester.

After an injury-hit debut campaign at the King Power Stadium, Leicester are expected to cash in on the Irish international. Sunderland, Stoke, and Sheffield United have also been linked with moves for Cannon.

Norwich signed striker Ante Crnac in an initial £8.5m move from Rakow last week and aren't expected to add further to their striking ranks before the end of the window.

At this stage of the window, it would take a figure of astronomical proportions to tempt City into selling Sargent, with Crnac and Ashley Barnes available as Johannes Hoff Thorup's other striking options.

Norwich don't need to sell talent after the exits of Gabriel Sara, Jonathan Rowe and Adam Idah this summer. Any exits, including that of wantaway winger Abu Kamara, will be on their terms.

It's understood Brighton winger Amario Cozier-Duberry is also not under consideration by Norwich at this stage as they continue to work on attacking reinforcements before Friday's deadline.

City's pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder Reinier is thought to have cooled, but there is a chance City will return to the table before the deadline.

There will be further movement in both directions in the remaining days of the window, with several fringe players targeted for loan moves. Ken Aboh and Jaden Warner are attracting loan interest and could seal moves away from Carrow Road to further their development.

Norwich boss Thorup confirmed post-match on Saturday that the club remained in the market for attacking reinforcements.

“It is fair to say that we're still looking for players, for the offensive third of the pitch. Whether it is a winger or a more central player. Maybe it can be both,” said the Canaries' boss. “I think what's important for us is that it's a player where we can see some performance now, but also potential for the future.

"We are in the market, but, we don't do any hectic stuff towards the end, because I think the group is good. They're working hard, and my feeling around this team is that we will only get better.”
