King’s Lynn Town go into Bank Holiday Monday in the National League North play-off zone – hitting heights that had previously been out of their reach in more than a year.
A free-kick goal from assistant boss Sam Walker gave them a 1-0 win at Marine on Saturday and Lynn will head back to The Walks on Monday with a spring in their step for the derby clash against Peterborough Sports.
The Linnets are sixth in the table, one point off the top spot, after a run of three wins out of four games.
“A very hard game,” Lynn boss Adam Lakeland told the club's official channels. “Credit to them because they asked a lot of questions of us. I thought we were excellent for the first 25 minutes, we started really brightly, and I thought we settled into the game incredibly well. We just lost our way a little.”
Lakeland has emphasised the weekly requirement for resilience from his team and that will be put to the test again by Peterborough Sports, whose 1-0 home win over Buxton on Saturday was their first of the season.
He said: "We can look forward to that home game now, a local derby and I'm sure there will be a big crowd on a Bank Holiday weekend, certainly on the back of us coming here and getting three points, so we have got to make sure we are ready to go at three o'clock on Monday and hopefully we can get another result."
Lynn will again be without defender Kian Ronan who is out until September 10 because of concussion protocols after being stretchered off in the midweek win over Rushall Olympic.
However, the summer rebuild at The Walks has left the manager with more strength in depth, which makes rotating to rest tired legs much easier.
“We've got strength in depth and plenty of options,” he said. “And I think the greatest thing that we have now is I think we can make several changes and the team is not weakened.
“It's important that all the players know that they're all valued here, whether they're on the bench one game, they might play the next, so everybody will have their part to play.”
