Norwich City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup confirmed he is interested in signing RB Salzburg midfielder Forson Amankwah.

The 21-year-old and his advisors have travelled to England to seal a deal that could cost the Canaries just under £4m, plus performance-related bonuses.

Thorup played down any suggestion a move could go through in time for the Championship kick-off against Oxford on Saturday, but did confirm the young midfielder is a player of interest.

“I think it’s fair to say. We have to wait and see. There is no done deal. I think it is maybe fair to say it is 50/50,” he said, speaking at Colney on Thursday afternoon.

Thorup also insisted it was business as usual around players like Jon Rowe and Adam Idah, who continue to be touted with Carrow Road exits.

Idah remains a long term Celtic target, while City have held exploratory talks with Leeds over England Under-21 international Rowe.

Celtic were rebuffed earlier in the summer while Leeds will have to up the ante to convince City to part with Rowe.

“That's how it is. These guys, they train with the group, and they are important players for the group,” said Thorup. “We have to respect that the window is still open so many things can happen. We cannot affect what will happen.

"We cannot affect whether there will be an offer from a club here or there. That's also what I tell the players on a daily basis. Fortunately, they are they're doing well. They're performing well. They're training well and I will also say that their heads are ready to perform.”

Thorup highlighted the way Gabby Sara sealed a big-money move to Gala as the perfect template for what lies ahead in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.

“He's a fantastic story, also for us internally to use, because, like I said, he was here even before we started pre-season, a couple of days before, just to make sure that he was he was ready and he was fit, and he's been performing with a very high quality from day one,” he said

“That's exactly how you how you have to behave, and how you have to conduct yourself as a player in this difficult market, where so many things is going on and so much media attention and so much to read and listen to, but the only thing you can actually do is make sure that you perform on a daily basis.”
