Norwich City have joined the race for Leicester striker Tom Cannon, according to reports.

Transfer guru Alan Nixon is reporting on Sunday morning that the Canaries have joined Championship rivals Sheffield United and West Brom in the hunt for Cannon, who may be available on loan later in the window.

That link comes amid continued interest in Adam Idah from Celtic, who saw an opening bid of £4m rejected by City last month. The Irishman is believed to want a return to Scotland after a successful loan posting there last season.

Cannon, 21, was of interest to City last summer as they stepped up their search for a striker after Josh Sargent’s ankle injury. He eventually joined Leicester and Norwich signed Hwang Ui-Jo on a season long loan.

In 16 appearances for the Foxes, Cannon only scored three times, but is highly rated having spent the developmental years of his career at Everton. A successful loan spell at Preston in 2022/23 saw interest rise.

The report adds that an injury to Jamie Vardy has seen the pause button pressed on a temporary loan switch for Cannon.

Celtic are expected to return to the table for Idah before the end of the transfer window, but Johannes Hoff Thorup confirmed that the Irishman will form part of his plans in next week’s Championship opener against Oxford United after being disciplined internally last week for missing the team’s flight to Austria.

“Yes, he is (part of the plans for Oxford). And I definitely think it is (chapter closed),” said Thorup. “He had a good camp in Austria, where he came back into the group and of course it took some meetings also to make it very clear what we expect stepping into the start of the season and the rest of the transfer window.”

Norwich are set to confirm the departure of midfielder Gabriel Sara in a big-money move to Galatasaray. That could spark a busy few weeks of action at Carrow Road.

Callum Doyle is flying back to the UK with Manchester City today and is then expected to complete a season-long loan to Norwich.
