Ben Chrisene's loan postings whilst at Aston Villa gave him a thirst to find a new permanent home at Norwich City.

The young left-back turned his back on the Premier League outfit despite being offered a new contract, instead opting to join the Canaries as he bids to accelerate his development in Norfolk.

Chrisene, 20, signed for City in a move that could eventually surpass seven figures and has had previous Championship experience at Blackburn as well as a brief loan spell at Scottish side Kilmarnock.

That whetted his appetite for experiencing life at first-team level as he targets taking the next step in his career under Johannes Hoff Thorup at Norwich.

"When you're young, the best thing for you is first-team minutes, and loans are a valuable experience," Chrisene told the Pink Un.

"The loan spells that I had were short and I didn't play as many games as I wanted to, but it was a taster of where I wanted to be. Now I'm in a place where I want to play every week and get as many minutes as I can. That's the aim.

"You want to be in a place that you know you're going to be for the next two or three years. Going on loan is a great for experience and it's great when you come back with that, but you want to know where you're going to be.

"Norwich have given me a four-year contract, and hopefully, I can be here for the next four years, settle down, and get to know the lads on a really good level."

Chrisene has taken a risk in walking away from Villa at such a promising stage of his career, but City's willingness to commit to his long-term future whilst offering a first-team place was a key factor in his decision.

"It's given me massive confidence. Villa is a big club, but so are Norwich. I've touched upon the ambitions to get to the Premier League, this is a Premier League club," Chrisene said.

"When I looked around the training ground, there is a Premier League feel. It's just about getting there now.

"It's a hard transition with a new manager and coaching staff, so I'm probably in the same boat as most of the players in terms of transitioning. It's an exciting project that they are building, and I'm happy to be here at the start of it. Hopefully, we can build together."
