It has represented a significant step up for Johannes Hoff Thorup's side who are still in the early stages of their Championship preparations, whilst both Brugge and Liege have finished theirs with matches against them.

Thorup has utilised the camp to assess City's younger players but is boosted by the return of Scottish trio Angus Gunn, Kenny McLean and Grant Hanley. Marcelino Nunez has also returned to first-team training after his involvement at the Copa America.

Wednesday's game saw Adam Idah make his Canaries return after a successful loan spell at Scottish champions Celtic, but he was limited to just 30 minutes. The striker is likely to be exposed to more minutes this afternoon.

It remains to be seen whether Onel Hernandez or Liam Gibbs, both of who have returned to first-team training after injury, will get their opening minutes on this occasion.

Standard Liege begin their Pro League season away at Genk next Sunday and are unbeaten in pre-season so far. They beat Dutch side NEC 2-1 last Saturday and are managed by former Croatian international Ivan Leko.

They finished 10th in the top-flight last season, 13 points outside the qualification places for the Championship. It will represent another test for City, who are still attempting to implement Thorup's desired style of play.

Norwich will return to the UK immediately after the final whistle and prepare for their opening Carrow Road friendly against Bundesliga Two side Magdeburg next Friday night before a trip to Austria.

Defender Jose Cordoba and Josh Sargent, the last two returning City players, will join up with the group on Monday.
