Norwich City hold an interest in Famalicao's Francisco Moura as their pursuit of a left back continues.

That's according to the well-established Portuguese outlet Record, who claim City have expressed a concrete interest in the 24-year-old this summer.

The report adds that Norwich tabled a €5m offer for Moura but that the Primeira Liga club is holding out for a fee closer to his €7.5m release clause. Former club Sporting Braga holds a 50pc sell-on clause for any potential deal.

Norwich have also been credited with an interest in Casa Pia's Leonardo Lelo this summer and are thought to be active in Portugal this summer.

The Record add that any hope of a deal being struck for Moura is now unlikely and cite that a source close to the Canaries has informed them that any prospect of the left back to Carrow Road is 'unlikely'.

They are hoping to secure at least one new option in that area of the pitch this summer after both Sam McCallum and Dimi Giannoulis departed at the end of their respective contracts earlier in the summer.

Manchester City youngster Callum Doyle is a target and there is hope that a season-long loan can be finalised, but City are waiting for the Premier League champions to officially sanction a move. There are also fears that a permanent offer from elsewhere could derail that pursuit.

Financially, City do need to record at least one major sale this summer and are expected to target the loan and free transfer market in the meantime.

City boss Thorup was quizzed by the Pink Un on the latest in City's pursuit of reinforcements at left-back after Wednesday's friendly defeat to Club Brugge in Belgium.

"With all due respect to the players that we already have, that's where my focus is at the moment," Thorup said. "Of course, everyone can see we maybe need some strengthening in that (left back) position.

"I think it's just a matter of when everything gets sorted and we find the right player at the right timing with the right quality that we need. So that's my answer here for now."
