Sam McCallum has completed his move to Sheffield United following his Norwich City departure earlier this summer.

The left-back has been courted by several Championship clubs this summer, including Stoke, but opted to join the newly-relegated Blades as part of their push for a Premier League return.

Norwich wanted to keep McCallum at Carrow Road but were unable to agree terms, leading the 23-year-old to search for pastures new after making 60 appearances for the club since joining from Coventry for £3.5m in January 2020.

McCallum has penned a four-year deal at Bramall Lane and cited Chris Wilder's style of play, which includes wing-backs, as a key factor in his decision to move to the Yorkshire club.

"It is a big club and I enjoy the style of football," McCallum told Sheffield United's official channels.

"I've always liked the football which the manager has implemented into the club and hopefully I'll fit hand-in-hand with that. The football United play is the football I want to be playing for the next couple of years.

"I am looking forward to all the ambitions the manager has got here. I think the project going forward looks like it is going in the right direction again, so I wanted to be part of it."

Wilder returned to Sheffield United last year but was unable to save them from the drop, and is working on a tight budget amid talk of a takeover.

McCallum has become their second signing of the summer, following Jamie Shackleton from Leeds United. The Blades boss explained why he pushed so hard to bring the ex-Norwich man to the club.

"Sam fits the profile and we are looking forward to welcoming him into the group," Wilder said.

"He will bring energy to an area of the field where it is essential to be fit and athletic. Sam loves to go forward and his Championship experience will be vital as we look to win games and be very competitive in a notoriously tough division."

McCallum will return to Norfolk in August for the third game of the campaign when Norwich host his new employers.
