Christos Tzolis has completed his expected second summer transfer to Belgian champions Club Brugge – triggering a sell on fee for Norwich City.

Tzolis was sold to Fortuna Dusseldorf for €3.5m in June under the terms of his original loan move from the Canaries in 2023, after the Bundesliga 2 side exercised a buy option.

The 22-year-old, however, had an automatic exit clause that could be triggered before July 15 for a deal in the region of €6.5m.

City’s percentage of the undisclosed fee paid by the Belgians to Fortuna is believed to be 10pc.

Tzolis plundered 24 goals and provided 10 assists in 37 appearances last season on loan, but made it clear he had no desire to stay in the German second tier after Fortuna missed out on promotion via the play-offs.

The move was confirmed late on Thursday afternoon by both clubs.

"The transfer last summer was a complete success on several levels,” Fortuna sporting director Christian Weber told his club’s official site. “Christos was given a platform and our full trust, and was thus able to make outstanding progress both athletically and personally.

"At the same time, we as a club were able to benefit from his individual quality and also achieve exceptional transfer proceeds through the agreed purchase option."

The Greek international has signed a contract until 2028 and will wear the number eight. Tzolis is set for a swift reunion with Norwich this month, with Johannes Hoff Thorup’s squad travelling to Belgium for a week long pre-season tour which includes a friendly against Brugge on July 16.

"What was to be expected has happened,” added Fortuna board member, Klaus Allofs. “From a sporting perspective, we would have liked nothing better than to keep Christos with us. From an economic perspective, however, it is a necessary and positive transfer for Fortuna.

“He is an example of our approach of loaning players, giving them the chance to show what they can do with us and to develop positively. Christos has played his way into the hearts of the fans, identified one hundred percent with Fortuna and played a major role in our sporting success.

"We thank him for that and wish him all the best with FC Bruges and the national team. He is always welcome in Düsseldorf."

Tzolis made just 30 appearances for Norwich, scoring on three occasions, following a big-money move from PAOK ahead of the club’s Premier League tilt in 2021.
