Returning Norwich City winger Abu Kamara is a summer target for Belgian giants Anderlecht, according to reports.

Kamara is attracting interest after a strong performance at League One champions Portsmouth last term, but Norwich are planning to utilise the England U20 international as part of Johannes Hoff Thorup's first-team plans.

Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke is reporting that the 34-time Belgian champions, managed by one-time Norwich youth coach Brian Riemer, are long-term admirers of Kamara and want to lure him to Belgium this summer.

It's believed Norwich plan to integrate Kamara into their first-team set-up this summer as Thorup runs the rule over the squad after succeeding David Wagner as head coach in May.

Kamara was integral to Portsmouth's successful title-winning campaign last season, scoring 10 goals and recording 11 assists in 52 games for the south coast side. His performances earned him recognition with England, making his U20 debut earlier this summer.

The 20-year-old, a product of City's academy, has one-year left on his Carrow Road contract with Norwich possessing a year's option in their favour.

Pompey boss John Mousinho made little secret of his desire for Kamara to return to Fratton Park if the opportunity arose during the summer transfer window, even though they've moved to sign other wide targets.

"I'm assuming the new manager at Norwich will want to have a proper look at him before making a decision.

"You never know, we’ll certainly be there if anything develops from Norwich’s standpoint.

"We know Abs was excellent for us last season," he continued, speaking to The News. "But you never know what Norwich have in the building, what they’re planning to bring in or what profiles they’re looking for.

"From our point of view if Abu becomes available, we’ll be there. So we’ll keep in contact and go from there."

Norwich currently have a host of wide talent on their books including Jon Rowe, Onel Hernandez, Christian Fassnacht, Borja Sainz and Tony Springett - with Thorup planning to assess the squad in this period.

City's players returned for their first pre-season session on Monday ahead of the start of friendly matches, with begin with a trip to Stevenage next week.
