Norwich City are not targeting Palmieras left back Vanderlan despite reports in Brazil claiming a bid had been submitted by the Canaries.

It's understood that the 21-year-old is not of interest to City nor is a target being actively pursued his summer as they continue to explore options to strengthen Johannes Hoff Thorup's first-team squad.

Reports linking City with a move for Vanderlan first surfaced last week from South America and those were escalated overnight with suggestions that Norwich had made their interest more concrete.

The youngster did feature in Palmeiras' 2-0 victory over Corinthians on Monday evening, with Benfica also interested in signing the young defender. They have reportedly held talks with his representatives and are exploring a £9m package to lure Vanderlan to Portugal.

Norwich are both in the market for a left-back after the departures of Sam McCallum and Dimi Giannoulis and active in South America, where they employ two full-time scouts, as they've stepped up operations post-Brexit.

Former Nordsjaelland full-back Martin Frese has been linked with a move to rejoin Thorup at Carrow Road but is mulling over his options with other interest from Italy and elsewhere.

At present, the only recognised left back on the books is youngster Guilherme Montoia although both Jacob Sorensen and Kenny McLean have performed makeshift roles there previously.

But Vanderlan is not among their targets this summer. Lewis O'Brien, the Nottingham Forest midfielder linked with a loan move to Carrow Road, is also not on their shortlist as their summer recruitment drive continues.
