Ex-Norwich City centre-back Ben Godfrey is set for a £10million move away from Everton, denying his former club a sell-on uplift in the process.
The 26-year-old will have a medical in Italy today ahead of joining Serie A side Atalanta, who have beaten Ligue 1's Lyon to the deal.
The Canaries negotiated a sell-on clause when selling Godfrey to the Toffees for an initial £20million in 2020, but were only entitled to a portion of any profit made on him.
That means Norwich won't benefit any further from the once-youth international's sale unless Everton make a highly unlikely amount in additional clauses they've included in Atalanta's purchase.
A cut-price deal is no surprise for Godfrey, who has 12 months left on his deal and has struggled for game time at Goodison Park in recent years. He made just 15 Premier League appearances last season and 13 the year before that, having registered more than 30 in only one of his four years in Liverpool.
He'll get the chance to play in the Champions League next season, however, after Atalanta finished fourth in the Italian top flight last term.
Godfrey has played 93 games in total for Everton, claiming three assists. He first signed for Norwich in 2016, making the move from York City for £100,000.
He spent 18 months as a midfielder on the fringes at Carrow Road before a breakthrough season on loan at Shrewsbury Town for the 2017-18 campaign, with then-head coach Daniel Farke converting him to a defender in the summer of 2018.
Godfrey became a first-team regular in the second half of the following season, playing a key role as City won the Championship title and were promoted. He then impressed in the Premier League despite the club's last-placed finish, captaining them twice in Grant Hanley's absence.
