Przemyslaw Placheta could yet have a future in English football, after Swansea City boss Luke Williams refused to rule out a new contract for the Pole.

The former Norwich City winger was officially released by Swansea last month, having ended his short stay in South Wales with injury.

He initially impressed after signing on a free transfer from the Canaries in January, however, and Williams says Placheta could still be playing for Swansea next season.

"We are still in contact with Przemy, we still have a duty of care," he said. "He sustained an injury playing for us and we have to look after him now, we have to honour that.

"I don’t think the door is completely shut on Przemy. I think he played some brilliant football for us and he helped to reinvent the side a little bit."

The seven-cap international played 10 times for Swansea last season, forging a unique role in his new head coach's possession-based system. Although he was initially included in the released list, Williams is a big fan of his.

He says options will continue to be explored this summer, with Placheta's contract officially up at the end of June.

“I think he became a very important player for what we were trying to do, and in making sure we won enough games to ensure we got another crack at the Championship,” the former Notts County chief told the BBC.

“He was very important in that period, so the door is not shut with Przemy, but there are some complications.

“The boy is a machine. If you’re ever fortunate enough to see him in the gym or stretching or running in a straight line, it’s quite awe-inspiring.

“He is an incredible professional who looks after himself extremely well. He will recover very well and we will certainly have more conversations with him in the coming weeks.”
