Simon Jordan isn't surprised that Norwich City sacked David Wagner after their play-off drubbing to Leeds United.

Wagner's departure was confirmed just over 12 hours after the full-time whistle ended their Championship campaign.

City moved quickly to sack Wagner as sporting director Ben Knapper expressed his wish to move 'in a different direction'. The German was in charge for 16 months, winning 31 of his 75 games in charge of the Canaries.

Wagner succeeded Dean Smith and sought to rebuild some of the bridges smashed down during the former Aston Villa boss' reign, but his football failed to connect with supporters and speculation over his future has rumbled on throughout the campaign.

Many City fans were calling for Wagner to go after the Elland Road defeat, with the club now looking at a summer reset with several players set to depart.

Former Crystal Palace owner Jordan, who co-hosts a mid-morning show on Talksport, has offered his view on Wagner's departure, admitting he wasn't surprised to see the news when it filtered through on Friday morning.

"No, it doesn't surprise me because the noises that were coming out of Norwich during the course of the season were that he had a tenuous relationship, or a grasp on a decent relationship, with the Norwich fans," Jordan said on talkSPORT.

"It appeared that there were times during the course of the season where actually they might have parted ways.

"They've come to the end of the season, and they've been smashed in the play-offs by Leeds United, so I'm not surprised that they've drawn a line under it.

"Is it reflective of the body of work he's done over the course of the season?

"I haven't watched enough of Norwich to say that he merits that, but when you go out of the play-offs 4-0 and don't really lay a glove on the opposition, and during the season there's been lots of rumblings about the style of football and the results you've been getting, I don't suppose it's much of a surprise."
