Norwich City have confirmed the signing of international winger Christian Fassnacht from Swiss giants Young Boys.

Fassnacht joins on a two-year deal with a club option for a further year for an undisclosed fee and will join up with the Canaries as they come to the closing stages of their 2023-24 preparations, having completed a full pre-season programme with his former club.

He becomes their fifth senior signing of the summer after Ashley Barnes, Jack Stacey, Shane Duffy and Borja Sainz.

The 19-times-capped Swiss worked with City head coach David Wagner when he was in charge of Young Boys between 2021 and 2022.

He adds to a wide department that's lost fellow new arrival Sainz to injury, with Milot Rashica set to leave the club if an acceptable offer is received this summer.

Fassnacht made 251 appearances for Young Boys, winning five Swiss league titles, scoring 75 goals and registering 43 assists. He's played 31 times in European club competition, and has won two Swiss cups.

“I’m really happy to sign for Norwich City. To challenge myself outside of Switzerland, in this club, for me, it is a dream come true," the Swiss international told the Canaries' official channels.

“I know the head coach very well. Of course, this was a big part of my decision to come to the club. We talked a lot and he gave me a really good feeling to make this move.

“I want to make the fans from Norwich happy by contributing goals and assists.”

The winger will wear number 16 during his time at Carrow Road and has already joined up with his new teammates at their Austrian training base.

Fassnacht has been on City's radar for a prolonged period of time and Wagner is delighted that the hard work has paid off to bring him to the club.

“We are absolutely delighted to bring Christian here to Norwich City," Wagner said. "He is a player I know very well, a top professional and he was desperate to come join us and test himself with a new experience.

“He has a track record, with many goals and assists at the top level in Switzerland and for the national team.

“This is a player we have targeted for some time. We have had to be patient, so it makes everyone involved very happy to get this over the line.

“We’re looking forward to working with Christian right away.”
