Season ticket renewal time is upon us - and I wonder if there are more Norwich City fans than usual who have found themselves giving it some serious thought this year.
I know I have been mulling over whether to keep hold of the seat in the Barclay I have had for the last 15 seasons. Whenever the letter has hit the doormat in the past, it has been a no-brainer. Going to Carrow Road was the highlight of my week so of course I was going to renew.
Something has changed, and I'm not sure when it happened. The pandemic may have had something to do with it. The enforced absence from the ground made me feel like I had lost touch with my club and, thinking about it now, I'm not sure I've ever really got it back. I have decided to renew, but I must say it's been a while since I've felt as excited about a trip to Carrow Road as I used to.
Sadly, it feels that this squad of players - the Farke squad that has served us so well - has reached its natural end. Some of them have delighted us over the last four or five years. Tim Krul was always a goalkeeper I had admired, watching him play for Newcastle and at the World Cup for the Netherlands, and I was thrilled when little old Norwich was where he had chosen to resurrect his career after an injury-ravaged spell at Brighton. He's been a fine keeper for us, making countless great saves and commanding the back line in more than 150 games. Just because he has now started to make too many mistakes does not take away from all the good things he has done. He will be fondly remembered, I hope, but it might be time for Timmy to move on after this season.
It might also be for the best if Teemu Pukki was to leave in the summer. Controversial as it might be, I'm thinking for both Norwich and Teemu himself. He will be 33 next month, his chances of playing at the top level again are diminishing by the day. If an offer comes, from La Liga in Spain for example, then surely no City fan would begrudge the great man a move. This is not to say he isn’t still performing for us. Make no mistake, the man would leave Norfolk as a Norwich City legend. He is currently just 12 shy of one hundred goals for the club. Quite simply the best free transfer the club has ever made.
Krul and Pukki are my favourite players of Norwich 2018-23, but there are many others that can leave with their heads held high. Max Aarons, thrown in at the deep end of a derby at Portman Road and vital for us ever since. Linked to all of the top clubs in Europe but still running down the right for the Canaries. Our at times harshly-treated captain Grant Hanley, who always gives it his all. And of course, Onel Hernandez, he of Argos - still adored by the faithful even as his powers have waned in recent times.

I said in a previous column that the club would do well to rid itself of the spectre of Dean Smith before season ticket renewal time if they wanted to ensure the continued income of the large majority of holders. With Wagner now at the wheel, though, it seems that what we really need is a clear-out of the playing staff - this is a squad that has peaked, has become stale and requires rebuilding.
Now that it's almost certain that Norwich City will still be in the Championship next season, I pray that Wagner is given the opportunity to put his own squad together and that the fresh start will be felt in the stands as well as on the pitch.
