Captain Lawrence Savage is urging his team-mates to ensure they keep their eyes on West Norfolk's ultimate prize.

West are just one point off the final London Three North-East promotion place going into their final three fixtures of the campaign. But even though the North Wootton club's destiny is not in their own hands, Savage wants no attention to be paid to the fortunes of Cantabrigian, their rivals for second place.

West's skipper said: 'I think we have to just concentrate and focus on our own fixtures and performances. Whatever happens with Cantabs will happen, we've got no control over that.

'What we do have control over is how we perform as a team and how we look to fulfil these last three fixtures. If promotion comes, brilliant, I think the lads deserve it. But I think if we were to take our eye off the ball in these last few games and go off the boil a little bit then dropping anything less than third I think would be unacceptable.

'I think the guys recognise that as well. We've come this far, let's not lower our expectations and effort rate. Let's keep pushing on because we want to keep winning.'

West, third, visit fourth-placed Harlow tomorrow while Cantabs entertain Wanstead, sixth. The Greene King Eastern Counties Division One champions have surprised many by pushing for back-to-back promotions – even their stalwart captain.

'To be honest, no I didn't (expect to be sitting third now),' Savage added.

'When we got into the league obviously the first thing is to make sure you're safe from any relegation threat. It's been over five years since we were in this league but it's been tremendous to see how the guys have responded and taken on the challenge.

'Some of the older guys such as myself, and Ed Maule, have played in this league in the past. But for a lot of the younger guys who make up the majority of the squad they've adapted really well to the intensity and the bigger, bulkier lads they've come up against week in, week out.'

In EC One, doomed Swaffham's relegation will finally mathematically be confirmed if they fail to record a five-point home victory against third-from-bottom Thurston. Mid-table Wisbech travel to third-placed Newmarket.
