Wroxham will be playing just for pride today when they take on rock-bottom Burnham Ramblers in their final game.
The Yachtsmen's hopes of reaching the Ryman North play-off were ended last weekend as Aveley recorded a 2-1 win over Stewart Larter's men at Trafford Park.
A run of one win in eight games has been the downfall of Larter's side, with their inability to convert draws into victories ultimately causing their slide away from the play-off positions.
The Yachtsmen were in pole position to claim the fifth and final place as recent as six weeks ago, with back-to-back wins over local rivals Dereham Town and Cray Wanderers seeing them five points clear.
They now reside in eighth – six points adrift of fifth-placed Thurrock – who have hit form at the right time to virtually, if not quite mathematically, seal their spot in the play-off places.
Despite this disappointment, Larter and his troops must be proud of their achievements this term, with many of the players making the step up from Thurlow Nunn football to the Ryman North with consummate ease.
Larter must also take pride in his feat of taking a side that only kept their Step Four status thanks to an FA reprieve last term after finishing a lowly 22nd, gaining just 36 points (a tally they have more than doubled this term) in the process. In contrast, Burnham Ramblers' fate has been sealed for considerably longer, with the Essex outfit having been rooted to the foot of the Ryman North table for months – with relegation confirmed late last month and just 21 points to their name in a sorry season.
An 8-0 win over Ramblers at Trafford Park earlier in the season signalled slightly happier times for The Yachtsmen.
