The Car Shop: : Popular Beccles high-street store marks five-year anniversary
Everyone knows The Car Shop on Blyburgate in the heart of Beccles. It was established in the late 1980s, moving to its current location in 2009. When founder Graham Smith retired in 2015, the business was taken over by Stuart Holman and his family.
Stuart may never have imagined celebrating his fifth anniversary in the middle of a pandemic but, despite having had to close for two months during the lockdown, he says business is getting back to normal since reopening on June 1.
“A lot of people haven’t been going away, so they’re spending more time looking after their cars,” Stuart says. To help with that, The Car Shop has a comprehensive range of cleaning products, including a full selection of Autoglym products – at better prices than the Autoglym website.
A wide range of accessories is stocked, from air fresheners to sat navs. The Car Shop can support customers who aren’t confident with technology, with Stuart or part-time assistant Tim Miller – who has 40 years’ experience in the motor trade – able to update GPS maps or set up dash-cams they’ve supplied. They also offer a free wiper-blade fitting service.
As you would expect, The Car Shop offers a full range of maintenance items such as batteries, oils, fuel additives, filters and brake parts. Many service items are in stock or can be ordered in within a couple of hours. An even larger range of less-common parts and accessories can be also supplied on a click-and-collect, next-day basis when ordered through the website.
“I have a particular interest in classic cars,” says self-confessed petrolhead Stuart, who owns a 1977 Triumph Stag. “We can supply the specialist oils the older engines prefer and can offer discounts to members of local car clubs.”
For those annoying dents and dings, The Car Shop has a range of paint and preparation products. Number plates can also be supplied on a same day basis and normally within a couple of hours.
“We pride ourselves on our first-class customer service,” says Stuart. “Nothing is too much trouble.”
