A Norfolk bed and breakfast is celebrating after being named winners of a television competition.

The Sugar Beat Eating House in Swainsthorpe, formerly the Dun Cow, has emerged victorious from Channel 4 b&b competition, Four in a Bed, having successfully fended off three competing establishments.

Manager, Stevie King, 30 and head chef, Dave Lovett, 27, appeared on the programme last week, visiting three fellow bed and breakfasts across the country, as well as hosting their rivals, before a winner was determined by how much each pair was willing to pay for their rival's services.

Mr King said: 'When we were originally approached to do it, I was in two minds about whether to do it. However, I'm glad we did.

'We tried to be light hearted with it, and have most importantly have fun.'

Mr Lovett added: 'It was a really interesting experience and something I really enjoyed.'

The pair competed against three other bed and breakfasts, including another Norfolk-based establishment; the Fritton Arms, Fritton.

Mr King added: 'There are no hard feelings between us and the Fritton Arms. I genuinely hope that appearing on the show gives them a boost too.

'We've received really positive feedback from people after the show; some negative too but you can't please everyone.'

The programme saw each establishment given marks out of ten in five categories; hosting, cleanliness, facilities, sleep and breakfast. The Sugar Beat scored particularly high on hosting, with one of their rival pairs scoring them 100 out of 10.

Mr King said: 'It took a lot of hard work and a good team who work together well, that wouldn't have been seen on screen.'

Mr Lovett added: 'It's all about being friendly and welcoming, which is something we all try to do here.'

Filmed in July, the programme served up a double dose of joy for Mr King, who got married less than a week before.

'In a way, filming the show was my honeymoon, and I had to spend it with Dave,' he joked.
