A former district council chairman who lost his seat in last week's election will serve another year in chains after being elected as mayor in his hometown.
Robert Kybird was voted in as mayor of Thetford at a meeting of the town council on Thursday night.
The Conservative councillor was one of the big casualties at last week's election, losing his seat on Breckland Council having just completed a year as chairman.
His upcoming term will be his second as mayor, having held the position in 2007/08.
Mr Kybird was voted in ahead of Terry Jermy by a single vote, winning by six votes to five, with two abstentions.
He will be made mayor at a ceremony on Tuesday night at the town's Guildhall.
Sylvia Armes, mayor for 2014/15, was also nominated for the role, but declined the offer to take it up for a second consecutive year.
