A bid to build a 244-bed student development on the site of a former Norwich city centre bingo club has been lodged - and this image shows what the completed project would look like.

London-based Alumno Developments wants to build the development, called 'The Quad', where Mecca Bingo used to be on All Saints Green in Norwich.

The height of the building would vary, but at its tallest point of 13 storeys. it would be taller than the Aviva building next door.

But designers say that section - dubbed the belfry - would play 'a modest role in the city skyline acting as a lantern in the wider urban landscape.'

The development, which comes amid changes which will see traffic banned from All Saints Green, include a management team on-site and students will not be allowed to park cars at the site or in the local area.

If planning permission is granted, the development would be the company's second in Norwich. following one at the city's bus station.

David Campbell, managing director of Alumno Developments, said: 'Our team has worked hard to develop these proposals and we have been pleased with the reception so far.

'We hope to continue building our relationships with the community and contribute to Norwich's growth with a high quality new building that will bring further life and vibrancy to All Saints Green.

'Norwich is a welcoming and dynamic city in which a strong education sector plays an important role. We would like to support this through another significant investment in the city centre,'

The company says the students will spend about £1.25m per year locally.

Mecca Bingo shut in April 2011 and the building demolished in June 2014. The site was previously home to a cinema. The Rolling Stones performed there, when it was the Gaumont, in 1964.
