The re-branded badge featuring the caring character of St Mary and the sea and sail of St Peter replaces a dated shield which had been the emblem of St Mary's Catholic Primary and Nursery School on East Anglian Way.

The new design reflects the upcoming change in the school's name to St Mary and St Peter Catholic Primary School, chiming with the merger of the Gorleston and Great Yarmouth Catholic parishes.

It is the work of East Norfolk College student Luke Welch who turned a graceful and symbolic drawing by Kerryann Ricketts, deputy head of the school, into a professional final design.

Luke has been hailed for his commitment, attention to detail and technical skills which a spokesman said were all the more impressive considering that he is in his first year at the college.

In producing the logo, Luke had to combine his software competencies with the manufacturing requirements of producing an embroidered badge.

Seventeen EN students applied to take part in the project.

Another noteworthy collaboration occurred between Kim Harvey and Joe Turner providing them with an opportunity to experience working to a real-life brief.

Sue Cook, director of progression and employability at EN said: 'This project offered an ideal opportunity for the students involved to gain a purposeful and meaningful experience while at the same time serving the wider community and establishing new partnerships. We cannot wait to see the children wearing their new uniforms.'

Vicki Long, headteacher at St Mary's Catholic School said: 'We are thrilled to have been able to collaborate with East Norfolk Sixth Form College in this way.

'We have been totally impressed by the professionalism and capabilities of the students we have worked with who have all demonstrated superb skill-sets that will serve them well when they enter the workforce following their studies.

'The new school logo is beautiful and signifies all that St Mary and St Peter Catholic Primary School embodies in its mission and values. Thanks to the dedication of Luke Welch and the other students who were involved. This new logo brings these values together in a visual representation for all to see. We are proud to have worked together with the students of East Norfolk Sixth Form College on this project and thank them for all that they have helped achieve for us.'
