Salah Hadi, also known as Salam Hadi Ali, is wanted in connection with an incident when a man in his early 30s was attacked on Riverside Road, suffering stab wounds to his face and neck.

An image of Salah Hadi was seen by millions of TV viewers on Tuesday night in the Wanted Faces section as part of a special programme celebrating 30 years of the crime-solving BBC show.

The 35-year-old was described by Martin Bayfield, former police officer, England rugby international and now Crimewatch co-presenter, as having 'links to Norwich, Ipswich and the West Midlands'.

He added: 'He is considered to be dangerous, so if you see him don't approach him, just call 999 immediately.' The TV appeal has generated a number of calls to police in Norwich. A spokesman for Norfolk police said: 'Officers have received a number of calls following a Crimewatch appeal and are now in the process of following these up and making the necessary inquiries.'

The Crimewatch appeal follows a decision by detectives to release an image of Salah Hadi, who is Kurdish, to the media last month.

Speaking at the time, Detective Constable Phil Paddon, investigating officer, from Norwich CID said: 'We continue to carry out enquiries in the Kurdish community and with other police forces in order to trace Salah Hadi.

'These have so far been unsuccessful and we're keen to hear from anyone who may have seen him recently or knows of his current whereabouts.'

Two men have been charged with offences in relation to the incident on April 18 this year.

Luqman Ali, 21, of York Road, Great Yarmouth, is charged with aiding and abetting attempted murder, obstructing a police officer and driving without a licence or insurance.

Kamal Hajizada, 25, of no fixed abode, faces charges of attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon.

Both have been remanded in custody to appear before the courts at a later date.

Information to police on 101.
