Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident, which happened at about 12.55pm yesterday (Thursday, November 16), in Hamilton Road. A blue Skoda Yeti was in collision with a pedestrian at the junction with Prince of Wales Road.

The male pedestrian, aged in his 80s, suffered serious head injuries and was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge where he remains, police said. An air ambulance landed at Evington Gardens to pick up the injured man.

Several road ambulances and police cars were at the scene, and Hamilton Road was closed while the recovery effort was taking place.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or the manner of either the vehicle or the pedestrian prior to it. Anyone with information should contact PC Daniel Letort from Acle police station on 101.
