A detective has vowed to continue to disrupt those who distribute drugs through the county after a driver caught with more than £500,000 of ketamine in his car was jailed.

Detective Constable Graeme Poole was speaking after Anthony Clinton, 59, was sentenced to more than five years in prison after admitting a series of drugs offences after he was stopped by police on the A11 in October last year.

DC Poole said: "Removing Clinton from our streets has made Norfolk safer.

“We see first-hand the devastating effects that drugs can have on individuals and the wider community.

"We will continue to work to disrupt and challenge those who choose to distribute drugs throughout our county.”

Before Clinton, of Cromes Place, Badersfield, was jailed for a total of five years and seven months earlier this month, Norwich Crown Court heard the taxi driver's arrest on the A11 prompted a search of his home address where further drugs were found.

Eastern Daily Press:

A police spokesman has confirmed that ketamine, a powerful horse tranquiliser and anaesthetic, with a street value of between £629,340 and £839,310 was seized.

Other drugs police found included Metheylmethcathinone (MMC), a class B drug, with a street value of between £34,305 and £48,990, cocaine worth around £1,000, MDMA, worth about £1,500 and cannabis, worth about £450.

Clinton had previously admitted two counts of possession with intent to supply ketamine, two counts of possession with intent to supply cannabis and an offence of possession with intent to supply MMC, a class B drug.

He also admitted two counts of possession of cocaine as well as possession of ecstasy.

Matthew McNiff, mitigating, said his client has no previous convictions and "became involved through others".

He accepted there was a "substantial" amount of drugs found but insisted this was not an individual who was "living the high life" as a result of his involvement.
