Young business brains are poised to take part in a challenge to shape the future of their home town.

Sheringham High School students are being set the goal of coming up with ideas to enhance the local economy.

The Apprentice style task will see the rival teams of 13 and 14-year-olds putting forward competing projects.

Members of Sheringham Chamber of Trade and Commerce will judge the plans - which could even be implemented by the town's new Coastal Community Team.

The team was set up in January following a successful bid for £10,000 in government funding.

The school's head of business and vocational education David Wallis, who will oversee the task, said: 'The students will do preliminary research in the form of age profiles, education, skills and housing in the town and the chamber members will be providing specialist advice and guidance on the day.'

The Sheringham Coastal Community bid was based on a wide range of local organisations working together to develop innovative ways of maintaining the vitality of the town centre.

Sheringham Chamber of Trade and Commerce secretary Andy Bullen said: 'This will be a great exercise in business skills that might even come up with a project that could be taken forward by the Coastal Community Team.

'The idea is to get young people shaping the future of their home town.

Not all of them will go away to university, some will end up working here - so it is important to have a vibrant local community.'
