As Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and their guests tucked into a sumptuous wedding cake on Saturday, British Airways passengers were doing the same – thanks to a Norfolk bakery.
Sponge in Holt was commissioned by Gate Group, a supplier to the airline, to create a special product to mark the royal wedding.
The result was a lemon and elderflower baby sponge – the same flavour as the royal couple's own wedding cake – presented in a box bearing a message to Prince Harry and his bride.
The Sponge bakery in Holt made 16,000 of the special cakes, which were given to BA passengers and staff on Saturday.
Richard Fowler, head of Sponge trade sales and corporate business, said the royal wedding had brought in an estimated £25,000-£30,000 of extra revenue for the bakery through corporate and personal orders.
'The royal wedding has been an absolutely massive event for us, which took us by surprise,' he said.
