A dog has died after falling into the river at a beauty spot in Norwich.
Emergency services were called to Riverside Walk, near the St Helens Wharf Car Park, this lunchtime after a woman jumped into the River Wensum to rescue her pet.
After pulling the small black dog from the water, the woman was treated by paramedics while a passerby ran to retrieve a defibrillator.
Firefighters fought to save the dog's life for more than half an hour, administering CPR alongside oxygen and shocks, but the dog died at the scene.
A spokeswoman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 1.35pm with reports that a woman had entered the water to rescue her dog near Bishopgate in Norwich.
"By the time we arrived on scene, the woman and dog were both out of the water.
"The woman was transported to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
