A sinkhole has been given a festive makeover after weeks of delays left locals desperate to lighten the eyesore.

Chapel Road in Attleborough has been plagued with disruption for nearly a month leaving people in the town frustrated.

Taking matters into their own hands, a dismayed local pleaded with the council and BT to bring an end to disruption in a unique and festive way.

The sign attached to the metal barrier reads: "Silent night, holey fright.

"Residents quake at the sight.

"Miracles need from heaven afar.

"Jesus lord, fix this hole - Jesus lord, fix this hole."

The works were started by the county council to tackle the subsidence issue but during the project maintenance cables running under the road were also found to be damaged.

Since the project was handed over to BT and Openreach it has stalled, with locals potentially having to get used to them for a little while longer.

A spokesman for Norfolk County Council said: "BT has been made aware of the situation, and we have been in contact urging them to complete the necessary repairs as quickly as possible.

"Currently, BT has not scheduled this work and we are now reviewing options on how to make the road fully operational again.”

BT and Openreach have been contacted for comment.
